Valentine's Day, a celebration of love and sweetness, deserves a dessert that is as indulgent as the occasion itself. Imagine a delightful combination of fudgy brownies, velvety ice cream, all concealed beneath a luscious chocolate dome that melts away under the warmth of a triple berry sauce. This exquisite treat is not just a dessert; it's a culinary symphony designed to be the perfect ending to a special meal. Don't worry, it's easier to make than you might realize.
What you Need:
12ounces high-quality chocolate
Small balloons, inflated to the size you want your "dome"
Brownies (you can make from scratch but to be honest, a boxed brownie mix can save you time and effort since the chocolate and fruit compote really add a great depth of flavor )
Ice cream (Vanilla Bean is my favorite here)
Triple Berry Fruit Compote (recipe below)
For the Chocolate Dome:
In a medium size bowl with steep sides, melt chocolate slowly until smooth. Gently dip the base of the balloon in the chocolate and press into the bowl so that the chocolate works its way up the sides of the balloon. Place upside down (I put on a mug as seen in the picture but another bowl or glass will also work here) and allow to harden.
completely. Once hardened, using scissors or a small knife, snip the balloon gently (you don't want it to explode, you want the air to release slowly). Gently work the balloon away from the sides of the chocolate vessel as you work the air out.
For the Triple Berry Sauce:
Ingredients:
1 pint strawberries, washed and capped
1 cup raspberries, washed
1 cup blueberries, washed
5 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar
Dash salt
In a small saucepan, heat all ingredients over medium low heat until sugar is dissolved. Just before serving, transfer to a blender and puree until smooth.
Crafting this dessert masterpiece requires a bit of preparation and a touch of culinary finesse. Begin by baking or acquiring your favorite fudgy brownies. Cut in squares or use a cookie cutter to do a heart shaped brownie to form your bottom layer. Choose a high-quality ice cream and flavor that complements the richness of the brownie and place a small scoop right on top of the brownie base. For this concoction you can't really go wrong with simple vanilla bean ice cream. With brownie and ice cream in place, gently place a chocolate dome over the plate.
The pièce de résistance is the warm triple berry sauce – a symphony of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries harmonizing to create a burst of fruity goodness. Before serving, make sure the sauce has stayed warm enough to melt into the chocolate dome, allowing its warmth to coax the chocolate dome into a decadent cascade. The berries' natural sweetness provides a refreshing contrast to the richness of the chocolate, brownie, and ice cream. Serve the sauce individually beside the dome in a small pitcher or glass.
This year, elevate the special occasion with a dessert that goes beyond the ordinary—a brownie and ice cream ensemble concealed beneath a chocolate dome, awakened by the warm embrace of triple berry sauce. Cheers to a Valentine's Day filled with good food with the ones you love and the sweetest of memories.
