Snow Day Adventures: Indoor Activities to Banish Boredom!

Snow days bring a magical world of white landscapes and playful snowflakes, but what happens when the chill keeps everyone indoors? My nieces and nephews will tell you that when one of them says “I’m bored” not only do I completely dislike the phrase, I consider it a challenge.  With that in mind, fear not! We've crafted a snow-day survival guide with indoor activities that'll have your kids forgetting the phrase, "I'm bored," in no time. Let the winter wonderland inside begin!

1. Snowy Storytime:

Transform your living room into a cozy reading nook. Gather blankets, pillows, and your child's favorite books. Encourage them to pick out tales that transport them to frosty landscapes, sparking their imagination as they embark on literary adventures. Blanket forts were one of my favorite things to read in as a kid when we got the chance to stay home for a snow day!

2. DIY Snowflake Decor:

Bring the beauty of snowflakes indoors with a crafty twist. Cut out paper snowflakes and let the kids decorate them with glitter, markers, or even a splash of watercolor. Hang these delicate creations around the house for a homemade winter wonderland.  Use individually or in paper garlands to create cozy winter vibes all throughout your home.

3. Bake Up Snowy Treats:

Channel your inner pastry chef and whip up snowy treats in the kitchen. Sugar cookies shaped like snowflakes, hot cocoa cupcakes, or even some melted snowmen chocolate bark all will help prevent those dreaded words.

4. Paper Folding a Book Vase

Grab some old books that are on the Goodwill pile and get crafty.  Remove the cover (leaving the spine intact) and fold the pages in half and then top down to create the look of an old-fashioned bird cage.  As the pages are folded, the book rounds out until the front pages and back pages meet in a “vase”.  Glue some flowers for instant décor!

5. Family Game Day:

Dust off those board games and puzzles for a classic family game day. Whether it's a strategic game of Monopoly, a lively round of charades, or a collaborative puzzle challenge, the options are endless. During the Blizzard of '93, we played countless card games while we waited for the power to return! Family bonding and fun guaranteed!

Snow days may limit outdoor adventures, but they open the door to a world of indoor possibilities. With a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of imagination, your kids can turn a snowy day indoors into a memory-filled winter wonderland. Embrace the joy of the season, and let the laughter and fun banish boredom once and for all!
