Sweet Memories: Crafting Chocolate 'Lace' Lollipops with Kids

When it comes to creating sweet memories in the kitchen, involving kids at an early age is an absolute delight. In today's adventure, we're exploring the exciting world of chocolate "lace" lollipops – a whimsical treat that not only satisfies the sweet tooth but also sparks the creativity of young minds. Get ready for a delicious and fun-filled activity with your little ones!

What you'll need:

  • 15-20 ounces high-quality chocolate

  • Plastic tulip chocolate molds

  • Lollipop sticks

  • Sprinkles and other embellishments

  • Parchment or wax paper

  • Clear plastic treat bags

Instructions:

1. Melt Your Chocolate:

Begin by melting your chosen chocolate flavors. You can use a microwave or a double boiler for this step. Stir until smooth and creamy.

2. Prepare Piping Bag:

Transfer the melted chocolate into a piping bag or a plastic Ziploc bag. If using a Ziploc bag, cut a small corner to create a makeshift piping tip.  You can also just use a fork or a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate if you don’t have bags readily available.

3. Create Lace Patterns:

Lay out parchment or wax paper on a flat surface. Draw large circles (I used the bottom of a quart size jar as my template) on the wax or parchment paper.  Layer another piece of wax or parchment paper over the top so that you can still see the circles.  Using the drawn circles as a guide, drizzle chocolate around the circle in concentric circles (or in no apparent pattern at all because that’s what kids love to do!)

4. Insert Lollipop Sticks:

Place a dollop of chocolate at the edge of on section and push the lollipop stick into the pooled chocolate lace design while the chocolate is still wet. Gently press down to secure.

5. Add Decorative Touches:

Before the chocolate sets, let the kids sprinkle on edible glitter, colored sugar, or tiny candies to add a burst of color and texture to their creations. Once your chocolate lace lollipops are adorned with delightful designs, allow them to set and harden. You can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator.

7. Share and Enjoy:

Once fully set, carefully peel the chocolate lace lollipops from the parchment paper. Now, the sweet masterpieces are ready to be enjoyed!  Eat immediately or wrap in individual clear plastic treat bags with a cute tag as a party favor that the kids can take with them.

Crafting chocolate lace lollipops with kids is not just about making a tasty treat; it's about

creating memories together. The laughter, the messy fingers, and the shared joy of enjoying the fruits of your labor make this activity a sweet and memorable experience for both kids and adults alike.  Choosing seasonal sprinkles and embellishments also means that this is a year-round craft that is very versatile.

So, the next time you have a group of kids that you need a fun activity for, grab some chocolate and let their imaginations run wild as you create chocolate lace lollipops together. It's a recipe for smiles, laughter, and delicious fun in the kitchen!
