If you know me, you know I love my fur babies. They are my loyal side-kicks, my travel buddies, and you won’t see me very many places without them. And if you know them, you know that they are spoiled rotten.
As you head into the Valentine's Day, why not include your four-legged family members in the festivities with homemade, tail-wagging treats? Crafting your own dog treats not only ensures you know exactly what goes into your pup’s snacks but also adds a touch of love to their daily routine. Here are two simple recipes that my little girls absolutely love!
Peanut Butter and Banana Bites:
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1 cup rolled oats
½ cup creamy peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol which is harmful to dogs)
Instructions:
In a bowl, mash the ripe banana until smooth.
Add rolled oats and peanut butter and stir until well combined.
Scoop out small portions of the mixture and roll them into bite-sized balls.
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and flatten slightly with a fork.
Bake, in a preheated oven, at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
Cool completely.
Sweet Potato Chewies:
Ingredients:
1 large sweet potato
dash of ginger
Instructions:
Wash and peel the sweet potato, then slice it into thin, even rounds.
Arrange the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they do not touch.
Bake, in a preheated oven, at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours or until the sweet potato slices become crispy and chewy.
Cool Completely.
Remember, always check with your vet to ensure the ingredients are suitable for your pup’s dietary needs and monitor when trying new ingredients for any signs of allergies or sensitivities. Store in an airtight container to preserve freshness.
These simple recipes offer a delightful way to treat your pets to something special. Gift giving is also for the four legged friends in your life!
